Scottish Ice Hockey (SIH) wishes to notify all players, officials, teams, and fans of adverse weather conditions forecasted across Scotland this weekend (22nd-24th November). The Met Office has issued amber alerts for snow and ice, as well as yellow warnings for wind, rain, and snow, which may affect travel and the safe conduct of planned events.
The safety of our community is SIH’s top priority. We urge everyone to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to ensure safety while attending National Development sessions and scheduled games.
Key Information for Participants
1. Monitor Travel Routes: Stay informed about road closures, public transport updates, and travel advisories. Plan journeys in advance and allow extra time. For updates, visit the Met Office’s weather warnings page.
2. Game Rescheduling Decisions: SIH will not directly cancel or reschedule games. Teams are responsible for making these decisions collaboratively, prioritizing safety. Teams must communicate changes promptly to players, officials, and supporters. SIH will fully support safety-based decisions.
3. Stay Updated on Game/Session Status: SIH will update the status of National Development sessions on our website and social media channels. Teams should ensure their communication channels are actively updated.
4. Prepare for Delays: Dress appropriately for winter weather and bring essential supplies, such as food, water, and warm clothing, in case of delays.
5. Follow Official Guidance: Heed advice from local authorities and weather services to minimize risks. Refer to Police Scotland’s updates for incident reports and travel information: Traffic Scotland.
6. Non-Attendance Policy for National Development Sessions: SIH recognises that adverse weather may prevent safe travel to National Development sessions. We assure all participants that non-attendance due to weather-related issues will NOT impact future participation or team selection decisions. Your safety remains our priority.
