SNL round-up: Comets stun Warriors to book semi-final clash with the Barons

Dundee Comets produced a stunning defensive display at Whitley Warriors on Sunday to book their place in the semi-finals of the NIHL Moralee Cup (North).

The Comets started the weekend knowing that three points from their two games against Solway Sharks and Whitley would guarantee a spot in the last four.

A 4-1 defeat at home to Solway ultimately proved a minor setback as Richard Hartmann’s team shocked the high-flying Warriors at Hillheads.

Rolands Gritans put the home side ahead late in the second period, but goals by Jonathan McBean and Sean Beattie in the last four minutes of the game secured a 2-1 victory for the Comets.

Netminder Toni Tammi was undoubtedly the star of the show, stopping 63 of the 64 shots he faced for a 98.44 save percentage.

The Comets now face Solihull Barons in the semi-finals, while Solway will go head-to-head with Widnes Wild.

James DeMeo (2) topped the scoring as Aberdeen Lynx maintained their unbeaten start to the Scottish National League (SNL) season with a 7-5 victory at Dundee Tigers.
