Both Murrayfield Racers and Solway Sharks had plenty to celebrate over the weekend as they clinched silverware in two different competitions.
The Racers went head-to-head with Whitley Warriors in the final of the NIHL North Cup aiming to pick up their second trophy this season following their earlier success in the Stuart Robertson Cup.
Goals on home ice by Garry Simpson (2), Marty Simpson and Callum Boyd helped the Racers claim a 4-2 lead in the first leg and they completed the job in dramatic fashion at Hillheads the following evening.
A Dean Holland strike with just over a minute to play in the reverse fixture brought the Warriors level in the tie, but the Racers kept their nerve in overtime to secure a deserved 7-6 aggregate victory – Boyd’s second goal of the night proved to be the decider.
The Sharks claimed the Scottish National League (SNL) title with a stylish 7-3 win at Aberdeen Lynx on Saturday – Peter Gapa weighed in with a hat-trick for the Dumfries-based side.
They completed a 100 percent record for the campaign back on home ice the following night as they eased to a 4-1 success against Dundee Tigers – Viktor Nestrasil (2), Liam Stenton and Scott Henderson got the goals.
Scott Jamieson was the star of the show with five goals as Kirkcaldy Kestrels ran out 6-5 winners at Paisley Pirates. Sean Cochrane was also on the scoresheet for the Kestrels.
Ben Brown notched a hat-trick for Dundee Comets in their 9-6 home victory over Belfast Giants SNL, while North Ayrshire Wild slipped to a 7-4 defeat at home to Paisley.
