As the Season Builds, December Adds Extra Buzz to a Big Weekend of Scottish Ice Hockey

The festive season brings a lively schedule to Scottish ice hockey, with six SNL games and one Scottish Cup tie set to unfold. Teddy Toss nights, Christmas shirts and busy rinks add extra energy, and with five clubs playing double-headers, this weekend could reshape the league picture heading into the final stretch of the year.

Top-End Tension at Murrayfield: Capitals vs Warriors

Saturday’s headline fixture sees Edinburgh Capitals welcome Whitley Warriors, a meeting with real significance at the upper end of the table.

Warriors sit on 27 points, Capitals on 25 with five games in hand, and Edinburgh claimed a 3–1 win when the sides met earlier in the season. With only the Kestrels managing to halt the Capitals’ progress so far, this latest matchup at Murrayfield carries plenty of interest.

Rockets Navigate a Demanding Double-Header

It’s a challenging weekend for Dundee Rockets, beginning with Saturday’s trip to Aberdeen to face the Lynx.

Aberdeen won the early-season meeting 3–2 in a close game and, having managed injuries and availability in recent weeks, will be looking to ice a full team when they take on the Rockets.

Sunday then sees Rockets travel to Fife to meet the Kirkcaldy Kestrels. Their opening encounter ended in a 6–1 Rockets win, but that scoreline doesn’t reflect the Kestrels’ current form. The Fife side have built momentum and were the first team to take points off the Capitals two weekends ago.

Two contrasting but demanding fixtures await the Rockets, with both opponents showing they have more to offer than early-season results suggested.

Key Weekend for Sharks and Wild

Solway Sharks begin on the road at Kilmarnock Thunder before hosting North Ayrshire Wild on Sunday.

Wild sit on 7 points, Sharks on 6, and Solway hold a game in hand. With four points available to both sides, this could be an important moment in closing the gap on the teams above.

With Kestrels up first on Saturday, it makes for a demanding back-to-back for Wild.

Scottish Cup: Warriors Hold the Advantage

Cup action returns with the second leg between Whitley Warriors and Paisley Pirates.

Warriors carry a 4–1 advantage from November’s first leg, though Pirates pushed them to a 4–3 overtime finish in their most recent league meeting.

There’s still work to do for both sides. Pirates have strengthened their roster in recent weeks, and Warriors bring a rugged, uncompromising style that points towards a physical and exciting game, with the winners set to face Aberdeen Lynx in the semi-finals.
