Junior goalies and coaches invited to informative goaltending event

The Scottish National Development Programme is delighted to announce it will facilitate 20 free places for a coaching session available to all Scottish Ice Hockey registered junior netminders.

This session will be run by Colin Grubb Goaltending and provide valuable coaching to the attending goalies. It will also help coaches who want to learn more about coaching goaltenders.

Grubb has recently been hired as the goalie coach for the Odessa Jackalopes in the North American Hockey League (NAHL).

He is also the USA Hockey Rocky Mountain Division Goalie Coach in Chief and owner of CGGoaltending.

“This session is designed to help all coaches at every Scottish Ice Hockey club learn about coaching goaltenders,” he said.

“Goaltending is critical to a team – it can be developed by all coaches, not just specialised goalie coaches.

“We will break down the six fundamentals of goaltending – 95% of them happen before the puck reaches the goaltender – give the coaches a better understanding of the position and, most importantly, the confidence to actively coach the goalies in their respective clubs.

“The coaches will build a station-based practice based on the six fundamentals and the game scenarios they correlate to and then execute the practice on the ice with the help of local players.”

The event will take place at Auchenharvie Ice Rink on Sunday, 7th August, 5-8.00 pm (time TBC). Coaches who attend will receive 10 CPD points for ongoing coaching certification.

To book a place, please email nationalprog@scottishicehockey.co.uk stating you would like to attend and if you are a goalie or coach. Please also supply age level and club if you are a goalie.
