The final weekend of action before Christmas brings a busy schedule in the Scottish National League, with five games taking place as the season reaches its midpoint. Both Aberdeen Lynx and Kilmarnock Thunder face double-headers, while Sunday’s remaining fixture sees two closely matched sides meet at Braehead.

Aberdeen Lynx face a demanding double-header this weekend, with the league playing its final games before Christmas. Saturday sees the Lynx host Whitley Warriors at the Lynx Ice Arena before travelling on Sunday to face Dundee Rockets.

The Lynx have faced Whitley Warriors twice already this season, with the Warriors taking the points on both occasions. Both meetings were competitive, with the opening game in Aberdeen remaining close until the final period, while the return fixture in Whitley saw Aberdeen create chances but struggle to break down the Whitley defence.

Sunday’s trip to Dundee follows last weekend’s meeting between the sides in Aberdeen, where the Rockets secured a 4–2 win. The Lynx are comfortable on the larger ice surface at Dundee Ice Arena, which suits their style of play, and they will also take confidence from last season’s playoff-winning performance there. With a tough run of fixtures continuing beyond the Christmas break, the focus for Aberdeen this weekend will be on taking points from both games. A Rockets win on Sunday would see Dundee move level on points with Edinburgh Capitals.

Kilmarnock Thunder also face two road games this weekend, beginning on Saturday against North Ayrshire Wild before travelling to Dumfries on Sunday to face Solway Sharks. Thunder have faced the Wild twice already this season, with North Ayrshire taking the points on both occasions.

Sunday’s meeting with Solway follows last weekend’s encounter between the sides, where the Sharks claimed an 8–5 victory. Solway have shown themselves to be a stronger side on home ice, making this another challenging fixture for Thunder. With just a single point separating Solway and North Ayrshire in the table, the outcome of Sunday’s game could prove significant.

Sunday also sees Paisley Pirates host Kirkcaldy Kestrels at Braehead Arena. The sides met twice at the very start of the season, with Pirates taking the wins on both occasions. Since then, the Kestrels have made clear strides as the season has progressed.

Both teams have played 18 games, with Pirates holding a narrow two-point advantage over Kestrels. With both sides known for their physical approach, Sunday’s matchup is expected to be a hard-fought contest.

With the league now at its midpoint and the final games before Christmas being played, the weekend offers an important opportunity for teams to head into the festive break with momentum and points on the board.
