It was a jam-packed weekend of Scottish ice hockey with six games on the schedule, including five league matchups and a crucial Scottish Cup semi-final. With the regular season nearing its end, every game carried weight, and the emerging young talent across the league continued to make a major impact.

Scottish Cup: Kestrels Edge Past Capitals to Reach Final

Edinburgh Capitals faced an uphill battle as they traveled to Fife to take on Kirkcaldy Kestrels in the second leg of their Scottish Cup semi-final. Trailing 4-1 from the first leg, the Capitals needed a strong performance to overturn the deficit and book their place in the final.

Both sides fought hard in the opening two periods, trading opportunities and goals in a closely contested match. Neither side managed to find the net in the first two periods, keeping the game tense and evenly matched. But it was the third period where the game truly came to life. Scott Geddes opened the scoring for the Capitals at the 47-minute mark, sparking hope for a comeback. Just minutes later, Sean Donaldson found the net on the power play, bringing the aggregate scoreline closer.

Despite continued pressure and multiple scoring chances, Edinburgh couldn’t find the additional goals they needed. The game ended in a Capitals win on the night, but with an aggregate victory, it is the Kestrels who advance to the Scottish Cup Final, where they will face Dundee Rockets.

Details on the final will be announced soon.

SNL: Young Stars Shine in Key League Battles

With five SNL matchups this weekend, teams were put to the test in double-header action, and several young players stepped up in big moments.

Pirates Close the Gap in the League

Paisley Pirates enjoyed a perfect weekend, securing four points with wins over North Ayrshire Wild (3-0) and Kilmarnock Thunder (11-1). The victories move the Pirates just three points behind Kirkcaldy Kestrels, with a game in hand.

Beyond the wins, the Pirates celebrated a special moment as three young players—Zack Docherty, Jay Herd, and Cammy Miller—each scored their first-ever SNL goals in the game against Kilmarnock. The rise of fresh talent is adding depth to the squad at a crucial time in the season.

Lynx Dominate as Youth Players Make Their Mark

Aberdeen Lynx also saw young players shine in their 7-0 victory over Kilmarnock Thunder. New signing Rowan Mills, on a two-way contract with the Dundee Stars, scored his first goal for the Lynx, while 15-year-old Zac Thomson bagged his second goal of the season. The game also marked the first SNL appearance for Lennon Stephens, who currently plays for Lynx U19s. With more and more young players making an impact, the future looks bright for the Lynx.

Despite the emphatic win, Lynx remain third in the league standings, but the result narrows the gap between them and the second-placed Edinburgh Capitals.

North Ayrshire Wild Battle Hard Despite Setbacks

It was a tough weekend for North Ayrshire Wild, who fell to both Paisley Pirates and Edinburgh Capitals. Saturday’s 3-0 loss to the Pirates saw goalie Liam Griffin put in a strong performance, facing significant pressure but keeping his team in the game. The match was physical, with multiple penalties on both sides.

Sunday’s game against the Capitals was always going to be a challenge, with Edinburgh holding second place in the standings. But even in defeat, there was reason to celebrate as 17-year-old Jacob Woods scored his first SNL goal of the season, marking another milestone for young talent in the league.

Dundee Rockets Extend Their Winning Streak to 13 Games

Flying high after their Saturday night win over the Capitals, the Kirkcaldy Kestrels faced a preview of their upcoming Scottish Cup final opponent as they squared off against Dundee Rockets on Sunday.

Fatigue and a short bench made it a tough outing for the Kestrels, and by the end of the second period, the Rockets had surged to a 8-1 lead. Despite continued effort, the Kestrels managed just one more goal in the final period, while the Rockets added two more to seal a dominant 10-2 victory.

The Rockets now boast an impressive 13-game winning streak, making them a formidable force as the season nears its climax.

Playoff Race Heats Up

With just a handful of games left in the regular season, the battle for playoff positions is intensifying. Teams are making their final pushes, and fans can expect thrilling action as the race tightens.

Tickets for the SNL Playoffs are on sale now—so no matter which team you support, it’s shaping up to be an unmissable weekend of Scottish ice hockey!
