Warriors Move Top as Scottish Cup Quarter-Finals Continue Across the Weekend

Five league fixtures and two Scottish Cup ties shaped another busy weekend across the Scottish game, with movement in the upper half of the table and the opening stages of the quarter-finals now underway.

League Movement at the Top

Whitley Warriors returned to the summit on 23 points after their 3–0 home win over Aberdeen Lynx on Sunday. They move above the unbeaten Edinburgh Capitals, who remain close behind with games in hand.

The Paisley Pirates climbed into third place on 20 points, switching spots with the Dundee Rockets, who now sit fourth on 19 points. The gap in games played is significant — the Pirates have played 16, while the Rockets have only played 12.

Further down, the Aberdeen Lynx moved up to fifth on 14 points from 13 games, just ahead of the Kirkcaldy Kestrels, who also sit on 14 points but from 15 games.

Scottish Cup Quarter-Finals Update

The Edinburgh Capitals became the first team to reach the semi-finals after completing an 8–2 aggregate victory over North Ayrshire Wild. Sunday’s second leg finished 2–0, a low-scoring game in which Wild — who don’t have the depth of the Capitals — kept them off the scoreboard until the second period. Kris Phillips opened at 28 minutes, and a short-handed goal from Chad Smith made it 2–0. The third period passed without further scoring as Edinburgh wrapped up the tie 8–2 on aggregate.

In Fife, the quarter-final between the Dundee Rockets and Kirkcaldy Kestrels began with a 6–2 first-leg win for the Rockets. Two goals in the opening period set the tone before the Rockets pushed the lead to three early in the second. The Kestrels responded through a short-handed goal from Joe Sommerville and another from George Pitcaithly, reducing the gap to one. Holding that margin into the third, the Rockets pulled away with three more — including a hat-trick for Sam McCluskey — ahead of the return leg.

Edinburgh will face the winner of the Rockets–Kestrels tie.

Lynx Split Their Weekend on the Road

Aberdeen collected two points from their double-header away from home.

On Saturday, the Lynx beat Solway Sharks SNL 5–2 in Dumfries. After a scoreless first period, Callum Hill opened the scoring on the power play — the only goal of the second. Aberdeen added two early in the third through Owen Michie (power play) and Logan Gordon before Solway responded with a pair. Jordan Leyden struck twice late on to secure the win.

Less than 24 hours later, Aberdeen made their first visit to Whitley Bay and were beaten 3–0 by the Warriors. Whitley scored inside the opening minute, doubled the lead in the second through Cameron Ware, and added a third in the final period — also from Ware. Aberdeen matched the hosts for stretches but couldn’t find a breakthrough.

Rockets Edge Whitley in the League

The Dundee Rockets claimed a 3–2 win over the Whitley Warriors on Saturday. Jack Williams opened the scoring early in the first period for Whitley, before the Rockets pulled level later in the frame. Whitley regained the lead in the second, but the Rockets turned the game around in the final period with two goals to take the points in a close contest.

Pirates Strong Across Home-and-Away

The Paisley Pirates recorded dominant back-to-back wins over Kilmarnock Thunder, winning 18–1 on Saturday and 7–1 on Sunday. Recent signings have added depth to the Pirates’ roster, while Thunder worked to the final whistle across both fixtures. Both games were notably low in penalties, reflecting disciplined performances.
