As we edge closer to the halfway point of the season, Scottish ice hockey gears up for one of its busiest weekends yet — with five league games and two Scottish Cup fixtures set to shape the standings and storylines across the country.
Scottish Cup: Second-Leg Decisions & First-Leg Fireworks
The action begins on Saturday with the second leg between Edinburgh Capitals and North Ayrshire Wild.
The Capitals hold a 6–2 advantage from the first meeting and, with their flawless league record, come in as strong favourites to progress. For a young Wild side, overturning a four-goal deficit away from home is a significant challenge.
Whoever advances will face the winner of Dundee Rockets vs Kirkcaldy Kestrels in the next round.
That next tie gets underway on Sunday, when the Rockets and Kestrels meet in their first leg. Their only league encounter this season ended 6–1 to the Rockets, setting the backdrop for what should be a difficult game for both sides.
League Action: Big Points, Tight Tables
Warriors vs Rockets & Lynx — A Defining Weekend?
The Whitley Warriors face one of their toughest weekends yet: away to the Rockets on Saturday, before returning home to host the Aberdeen Lynx on Sunday.
The Rockets edged the Warriors in their earlier meeting, and their opening-day clash with Aberdeen stayed tight until the final period.
A four-point weekend could lift the Warriors into top spot, though the Capitals would still hold three games in hand. With the Rockets on 17 points, just two behind, this double-header carries major implications — and their Sunday opponents, the Aberdeen Lynx, are also facing a significant weekend of their own.
Aberdeen Lynx on the Road: Solway Saturday, Whitley Sunday
Aberdeen head into a demanding back-to-back with Solway on Saturday and Whitley on Sunday.
The Lynx took a 5–3 win in their earlier meeting with Solway Sharks, but playing in Dumfries presents a different challenge, and the Sharks will be determined to close the gap in the table.
Sunday’s trip to Whitley only adds to the challenge, rounding off a weekend that could prove important for Aberdeen as they look to climb from mid-table.
Pirates vs Kilmarnock Thunder — Home & Away Series
The Paisley Pirates and Kilmarnock Thunder meet twice across the weekend — Saturday at The Galleon Centre and Sunday at Braehead.
Thunder are still searching for their first win of the season, while the Pirates, sitting on 16 points in fourth place, will see this as a chance to strengthen their position. They’ve played more games than several teams around them, so taking points this weekend will be important as the table continues to tighten.
Looking Ahead
With seven games on the schedule, this weekend brings plenty of action across Scottish ice hockey. From cup ties to key league matchups, there’s no shortage of storylines, challenges and opportunities — making it an exciting few days for teams and supporters alike.
