Weekend Roundup – Capitals Extend Their Unbeaten Run

It was another action-packed weekend in the Scottish National League — and a defining one for Edinburgh Capitals, who faced the Dundee Rockets in a home-and-away double header.

Both teams came into the weekend in strong form, setting up two tightly contested fixtures. On Saturday at Murrayfield, the opening period passed without a goal, with both sides creating good scoring opportunities. The Capitals took the lead in the second with two goals before a power play marker from Joe Lynch in the third extended their advantage. Robbie Hill and Deniss Kontseus responded for the Rockets to narrow the gap, but a late fourth goal secured a 4–2 win for the home side.

Less than 24 hours later, the two sides met again in Dundee for another fast-paced game that went all the way to overtime. The Capitals scored four times in the opening period, but the Rockets battled back with a goal from Deniss Kontseus in the second and two more in the closing minutes to tie the game. In overtime, Rihards Grigors found the winner for Edinburgh, sealing a 5–4 OT victory and a four-point weekend for the unbeaten league leaders.

Warriors Hit Fifteen

The Whitley Warriors remain in second place on 14 points, two behind the Capitals, after a 15–2 home win against Kilmarnock Thunder. The game saw a number of penalties for Thunder, creating multiple power-play opportunities that Whitley converted into goals.

Pirates Edge the Lynx

The Paisley Pirates stay in third place, also on 14 points, following a 6–5 win over the Aberdeen Lynx on Sunday.

The Pirates trailed early but scored four times in the second period through Aiden WilsonMarcus MurdochChris Wilson, and Michael Dobson to turn the game in their favour. Craig Peacock and Murdoch added further goals in the third. A late effort from Conor Duncan reduced the deficit for Aberdeen, but the visitors were unable to find an equaliser before time expired.

It was the second defeat of the weekend for the Lynx after a 2–1 loss to the Kirkcaldy Kestrels in Aberdeen on Saturday. Scott Jamieson’s power-play goal in the third period proved decisive after both teams scored once earlier in the game. It was a frustrating fixture for both sides, with several stoppages — including a lengthy delay for rink glass repairs during the opening period — affecting the overall flow of play.

The Kestrels move up the table to fourth place on 12 points, while the Lynx sit in sixth place on 10 points.

Sharks Collect Two Points

The Solway Sharks recorded a 4–1 win over North Ayrshire Wild in Dumfries — their second victory over the Wild this season. Both teams generated scoring opportunities, but the Sharks were more clinical in front of goal, while netminder Harry Campbell made several key saves to secure the result.

With the season now well underway, only a few points separate much of the league table — and each weekend continues to bring close results and significant movement in the standings.

As the competition tightens, the question now is whether any team can halt the Capitals’ perfect run and shift the balance at the top.
