This weekend marks the start of the Scottish Cup, alongside four exciting league fixtures across the country.
The first Scottish Cup fixture of the season sees the North Ayrshire Wild host the Edinburgh Capitals on Saturday in Auchenharvie, before the Capitals travel to Braehead on Sunday to face the Paisley Pirates in league action.
The Capitals have enjoyed a flawless start to their league season and will be eager to carry that momentum into the Cup. The Wild, however, will be hoping to make home ice count and test the unbeaten side early in the competition. The two teams have yet to meet this season — setting the stage for an intriguing opening tie.
Sunday’s clash between the Capitals and Pirates promises to be a physical encounter. The Pirates currently sit just two points behind the Capitals but have played three more games. When the sides last met, Edinburgh claimed a 4–1 victory, but Paisley will take confidence from last weekend’s 6–5 comeback win over the Aberdeen Lynx in Braehead, turning the game around with a strong second-period performance. The Pirates will be looking to build on that result and bring an end to the Capitals’ perfect run.
The Aberdeen Lynx are also at home again this weekend as they host the Kirkcaldy Kestrels for the second straight Saturday. The Kestrels edged a narrow 2–1 win last time out, and the Lynx will be eager to even the score this time around. Having slipped down the standings in recent weeks, Aberdeen will be targeting a valuable two points, while the Kestrels – now on 12 points, just two ahead of the Lynx – will be looking to strengthen their position and keep the pressure on the teams above them. It’s set to be another fast-paced and competitive game.
At the Dundee Ice Arena, the Dundee Rockets host the Solway Sharks on Sunday. The Rockets suffered a double loss last weekend against the Capitals and now sit on 11 points from eight games. They’ll be eager to regroup and make home ice count, and with their well-drilled and clinical approach, they’ll prove a difficult test for Solway. The Sharks have already shown they can disrupt more established sides — including a recent win over Whitley — but repeating that against a disciplined Rockets outfit on the road will be no easy task.
Finally, the Whitley Warriors travel north to the Galleon Centre to take on the Kilmarnock Thunder. The Warriors, sitting just two points behind the Capitals, will be focused on maintaining their push near the top of the table. Thunder, meanwhile, continue to search for form after a tough 15–2 defeat to Whitley last weekend.
With Scottish Cup action returning and key league points on the line, it’s shaping up to be another intense weekend of hockey across Scotland.
